Apogee PYR-P Pyranometer

This sensor is calibrated to measure total shortwave radiation. The evaporation of water from soil and the transpiration of water from plant leaves are partly determined by the intensity of shortwave radiation. An ideal pyranometer measures the entire solar spectrum, 280 to 2800 nm. However, about 90% of sunlight energy is between 300 to 1100 nm. Models PYR-P and PYR-S are calibrated to estimate all of the shortwave energy from sunlight. Apogee pyranometers are calibrated under sunlight over a multiple day period to a heated and ventilated Kipp & Zonen model CM21 precision reference radiometer.

The CMP 3 pyranometer is an instrument for measuring the solar irradiance. The thermopile sensor construction measures the solar energy that is received from the total solar spectrum and the whole hemisphere (180 degrees field of view). The CMP 3 pyranometer is designed for continuous indoor and outdoor use. It is also intended for shortwave global solar radiation measurements in the spectral range from 300 to 2800 nm. The thermopile detector measures irradiance up to 2000 W/m² with response time <18 seconds and typical sensitivity 10 µV/W/m² that varies less than 5 % from -10 ºC to +40 ºC. Operating temperature range is -40 ºC to +80 ºC and the stability is better than 1 % per year. This Pyranometer does not require any power, it supplies a low voltage of 0-20mV in relation to the amount of incoming radiation.

Met One 385 Rain Gauge

The 385 is an electrically heated rain gauge that provides year-round measurement of rain or snow. It is a tipping-bucket rain gauge widely used in environmental monitoring applications. The 385 funnels precipitation into a bucket mechanism that tips and actuates a switch. The momentary switch closure is counted by the pulse-counting circuitry of any of the Campbell Scientific dataloggers. The gauge is heated so that frozen precipitation melts and is measured right away as a liquid.

The wind speed sensor is a four blade helicoid propeller. Propeller rotation produces an AC sine wave voltage signal. The wind direction sensor is a rugged yet lightweight vane. Vane angle is sensed by a precision potentiometer. Constructed of UV stabilized plastic with stainless steel and anodized aluminum fittings, the sensor mounts on standard 1 inch pipe. Vane angle is sensed by a precision potentiometer housed in a sealed chamber. All materials are carefully selected for corrosion resistance and maximum durability in the harsh marine environment. Stainless steel bearings are used throughout. Special waterproof lubricant further enhances reliability. The instrument mounts on standard 1 inch pipe.
